Finding old music
29 August, 2007
Is like bumping into an old mate and having a good old reminisce
In my seemingly never ending search for Malcolm Hardee’s autobiography I usually pop into all the local charity shops when I’m in town. Normally I never look at the music as there is a limit to how many ‘Celtic Sounds of the 80’s’ CDs and ‘Mrs Mills’ LPs a girl needs. However in the British Heart Foundation shop on Saturday I found ON by Echobelly, a snip at £2.99.
I admit it languished in my bag until Monday when I drove up to Nottingham for a barbeque with my mates. Radio Two could offer only Dale Winton with his ‘groovy sounds of the 60’s’ and I realised I’d listened to every CD in the car about 40 times. I nipped into the services and whacked it into the CD changer – wishing like hell I’d paid attention when Greg showed me how to actually do it without pulling the facia off the front (you’re not reading this are you hon?)
Within a matter of minutes I remembered standing on tables in the Blue Note in Derby and singing along to Kings of the Kerb, jumping round like loons in the Irish to Great Things and falling asleep at night listening to Dark Therapy. I drove up to Nottingham singing at the top of my voice. I’d forgotten how much I loved this album and what happy memories it bought back.
I wanna do great things, don’t wanna compromise
