Rob’s Blog

1 August, 2007

We’re finding ourselves tuning in to Rob’s blog now we can’t tune in to him on the telly as we’re too far west…

When I lived in t’north Rob was a regular on my screen. So I felt a bit of a fool when I’d been talking to him for a good two hours before someone said ‘See you on the telly next week Rob’ as they were leaving, and I embarrasingly said ‘Oooh are you famous then?’

After a very modest prompt from Rob, I realised I was talking to the chap who does a lot of the ’...and finally’ items on East Midlands Today, which is what makes his news page so interesting. Plus of course he’s talking about the places I grew up in. So if Rob mentions Alfreton I remember dad getting out of the car and leaving me stranded when he was teaching me to drive (he was muttering something about ‘near death experiences’). If he talks about Ripley I remember practicing my life saving skills at the local baths by rescuing dad and towing him to the shallow end in a bronze survival stylee. It turned out he was underwater, which goes some way to explaining why he was thrashing about so much. Of course not all places I remember from my childhood are related to me trying to top my old man. Sometimes it was my brother.

What I love about Rob’s blog though, is that one day he’ll be interviewing a man with a zoo in his back garden and the next he’ll be doing a piece about apprenticeships. But the thing that really makes it are the photos and the captions. Check it out – you’ll not be disappointed.

Oh, and finally…

...don’t have nightmares (except you dad…)
